Budgitrack Launches Private iOS Budgeting App

Recurse Ltd. launches Budgitrack, a private iOS budgeting app for the 2 in 3 UK adults who skip Open Banking. No bank linking, data on-device. Out now.

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, 19 May 2026 - Recurse Ltd., the UK software studio behind privacy-first consumer apps, today announced the worldwide launch of Budgitrack, a native iOS budgeting app that stores 100% of user financial data on the device. Budgitrack is available now on the Apple App Store for iPhone running iOS 17.6 or later.

Unlike the dominant category leaders, Budgitrack does not connect to bank accounts, does not import transactions, and does not transmit budget data to any external server. The app is designed for the two-thirds of UK adults who, according to Open Banking Limited, do not use Open Banking and prefer to keep their financial information off third-party infrastructure. The product philosophy is documented in detail in Why You Don't Need to Link Your Bank Account to Budget.

Key Launch Highlights

  • First major iOS budgeting app to ship with zero bank linking and zero cloud sync by default
  • All budget data stored locally on-device using Apple's SwiftData framework
  • Three pricing tiers documented on the Budgitrack pricing page: Free, Premium subscription (£1.99/month or £19.99/year), and Lifetime (£29.99)
  • Native widgets for home screen and lock screen, including glanceable disposable-income tracking
  • Available in 175 App Store regions on launch day

Why Budgitrack Was Built

The global budgeting app market has consolidated around a single design pattern: aggregate every transaction from every account, then display the results in a dashboard. That model assumes the user wants surveillance over their spending after the fact. Budgitrack is built on the opposite assumption.

The app asks for two things: what comes in, and what goes out on a recurring basis. It then calculates disposable income, projects forward, and shows a category breakdown. Setup typically takes under two minutes.

"Most budgeting apps are built to maximise data collection, not to help people make decisions," said Lewis Cookson, founder of Recurse Ltd. and creator of Budgitrack. "We took the opposite approach. Your salary, your rent, your subscriptions, your gym membership. You already know these numbers. You don't need a bank connection to type them in. And once they're in, the app stays out of your way."

Cookson cited the 2025 UK Cyber Security Breaches Survey as part of the rationale, which found that 43% of UK businesses experienced a cyber breach in the past year. "Every additional integration in your financial supply chain is another attack surface. Keeping budget data on a single device removes that risk entirely."

What's Included at Launch

Budgitrack ships with the following core features on day one:

Local-Only Data Architecture

All income sources, expenses, categories, and budgets are persisted to the device using SwiftData. No analytics provider, advertising network, or third-party SDK has access to financial values. Sign in with Apple is used solely for premium purchase restoration. Full data handling is described in the Budgitrack privacy policy.

Multi-Currency, Multi-Budget Support

Each income source and expense can carry its own currency. Premium users can create unlimited separate budgets, ideal for households managing personal and freelance income side by side without commingling categories.

Glanceable Widgets

Home screen widgets in small, medium, and large sizes display remaining disposable income and the category breakdown. Lock screen widgets (circular, rectangular, and inline) surface the same data without unlocking the device. Widgets are a Premium feature.

Period Normalisation

Income and expense values entered at any cadence (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual, or one-off) are automatically normalised to the user's preferred budget view period. Readers new to budgeting frameworks may find the companion guide to the 50/30/20 budget rule a useful place to start.

CSV Data Export

Premium users can export their full budget data as a CSV file at any time, ensuring the user retains complete ownership and portability of every entry.

Pricing and Availability

Budgitrack is available globally on the App Store from launch day. All prices below are in GBP; the App Store displays locally adjusted prices in 174 other regions.

Market Context

Median UK household financial wealth currently sits at £10,400, according to the ONS Wealth and Assets Survey, with average weekly household spending reaching £567.70 in the most recent ONS Family Spending bulletin. The UK's Money and Pensions Service has set a national target of 2 million additional working-age adults saving regularly by 2030.

Budgitrack is positioned to serve the segment of that audience that wants a clear, private picture of their disposable income without surrendering bank credentials or accepting recurring third-party data exposure.

Quote From the Founder

"Budgeting should be a thirty-second daily glance, not a forensic accounting exercise," said Cookson. "We removed everything we believe doesn't earn its place on the screen. What's left is the number that actually changes behaviour: how much money you have left this month. That's what Budgitrack puts in front of you."
