About Budgitrack

Built by Recurse Ltd. in the United Kingdom

Why we built a simpler budget app

Nearly two-thirds of UK adults don't use Open Banking at all, according to Open Banking Limited (2025). That means most people already manage their money without connecting their bank to third-party apps. So why do so many budget tools still demand it?

Budget apps have a complexity problem. Bank syncing, transaction categorisation, investment tracking, tax tools. For someone who just wants to know what's left after the bills, these features create friction rather than reducing it. Budgitrack takes the opposite approach. Enter your income and recurring expenses. See your disposable income, projections, and spending breakdown. That's it.

No transaction-by-transaction logging. No bank connections. No noise. Setting up a budget takes under two minutes, and once it's done, it only needs updating when something actually changes. Privacy isn't a feature we bolted on. It's a natural side effect of keeping things simple.

Who's behind it

Lewis Cookson

Lewis Cookson

Founder & Developer

Lewis is a software developer based in the UK with a background in building iOS and web applications. He started Budgitrack after growing frustrated with budget apps that demanded bank credentials just to show a simple spending breakdown. What began as a personal side project to track his own disposable income turned into a full product when friends and colleagues kept asking for a copy. He founded Recurse Ltd. to bring Budgitrack to the App Store with a clear principle: your financial data should stay on your device, and budgeting shouldn't cost a fortune.

How does Budgitrack protect your data?

An estimated 612,000 UK businesses identified a cyber breach or attack in the past year, according to the UK Cyber Security Breaches Survey (DSIT, 2025). Every third-party connection your data passes through creates another potential target. Budgitrack is designed to eliminate that risk entirely.

Budgitrack stores all financial data exclusively on the user's device, with no cloud sync, no bank linking, and no third-party data sharing. Only 14% of UK businesses review the cyber risks posed by their immediate suppliers (DSIT, 2025). Keeping data on-device removes the need to trust any external supply chain. For more on how this works, read our deep dive on bank linking and privacy.

  • Local-only storage

All budget data, including income, expenses, categories, and projections, is stored exclusively on your device. Nothing is uploaded to our servers.

  • No bank linking

We never ask for banking credentials, account numbers, or financial institution access. You enter figures manually, keeping your banking details private.

  • Minimal data collection

We use Sign in with Apple for identity and PostHog for anonymous usage analytics. We do not track financial amounts, income values, expense values, or category names.

  • Apple ecosystem security

All purchases are processed through Apple's StoreKit. We never see or store payment card details.
